GROOMING POLICY

All owners are required to sign our grooming consent form on their first appointment with us. We strive for open and clear communication regarding all services.

Emergencies: In the event of an emergency, Prairie Peak Kennels will immediately seek professional veterinarian attention for any dog. All attempts will be made to contact the owner in the event of an emergency.

Coat Condition: Prairie Peak Kennels puts my pet’s comfort above all else. In the event that a dog’s coat is matted, the groomer may have to shave the mats out rather than perform a painful de-matting procedure. If a dog is severely matted, there is an increased risk for clipper burn or cuts to occur. All attempts will be made to prevent this, however in many extreme mat conditions, it is unavoidable. Matted dogs take additional time to groom so there will be an additional fee added on to the regular grooming price if a dog’s coat is matted. Dogs may not be 100% dry upon pick-up, but every effort is made to dry dogs completely.

Health:  Grooming can be stressful to some dogs and it is the duty of the owner to inform the groomer if his/her dog has any health conditions or any stress related issues prior to grooming as well as the dog’s ability to have nails trimmed. It is necessary to have my pet up to date on all vaccinations prior to every grooming. Some ear cleaning and nail trimming services may be limited due to ear infections or elongated quicks. The owner must provide up-to-date Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccination records before any services are performed for any dogs over 5 months old. Prairie Peak Kennels will not perform any services on a pet that under 10 weeks old, pregnant/nursing, under any type of sedation or had any vaccinations in the last 48 hours. It is the duty of the owner to inform the groomer if a dog has undergone any veterinary treatment in the last 2 weeks.

Cancellation/late policy: Being on time regarding drop offs and pick ups is important for assuring dogs will be completed in the time allotted for them. If there is a need to cancel an appointment, it is the owner’s responsibility to do so at least 24 hours in advance of appointment start time to make the appointment time available for another client on the waiting list. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged 60% of the base service value, this includes cancelations due to expired/no  vaccinations. Prairie Peak Kennels will not allow anyone to re-book with them if an owner has had 3 no-call/no-show appointments.

  • Any late appointment more than 10 minutes may be required to reschedule per groomer discretion or be subject to a $15 late fee.
  • After 20 minutes, the groom will need to be rescheduled.

Aggressive Behavior: The grooming process can and may be stressful on certain dogs. Dogs displaying aggression or acute nervousness take much longer to groom. If a dog reacts in an aggressive manner that requires him/her to wear a muzzle, groomer’s helper or extra staff to help manage him/her, an additional fee will be added on to the regular grooming price. Prairie Peak Kennels will stop services if a dog displays excessive aggression or nervousness at the groomer’s discretion, and that a prorated fee will be applied.
